Construction Safety Emphasis
The construction safety emphasis is of value to the student seeking a career as a safety professional in the construction sector. This emphasis provides the student with a comprehensive background in worksite hazard assessment, safety and health program development, and risk management as it applies to the construction industry.
The construction safety emphasis will consist of the following courses..
SAFETY 382: Safety in the Construction Industry
SAFETY 384: Construction Accident Prevention
SAFETY 482: Construction Safety Management
In addition to the three courses students will be required to complete a compressive examination and complete their fieldwork internship with a construction organization. These three required courses would substitute for 9 of the 11 credits of safety electives currently required for the major and thus not increase the units to graduation for students selecting the emphasis. Occupational Safety majors completing the three-course sequence, receiving a passing grade on the comprehensive exam, and completing the construction internship will be awarded a BS in Occupational Safety - Construction Safety Emphasis.
