Course Description
This course is the first of a two-semester sequence
which introduces the basic concepts of algebra-based physics. It deals with
classical mechanics and thermal physics. The topics covered include particle kinematics
and dynamics; conservation of energy and linear momentum; rotational kinematics
and angular momentum, fluids, simple harmonic motion and waves; and thermodynamics.

Homework:
Homework will be assigned at the end of every chapter and must be returned the following week on time; late assignments will not be accepted. The homework must be neatly presented and prepared on 81/2ÕÕx 11ÕÕ paper; the pages must be stapled (no paper clips please). You must show all the steps that lead to the final result. The homework you submit to the instructor should be the product of your own effort. Should you have difficulties with the homework, please see me. We also provide tutoring services at no charge to you.

Course Policies:
Avoid missing a scheduled examination. Excuses from an exam must be obtained in advance of the exam. Acceptable excuses will be rare and granted only for those with verifiable and compelling medical reasons. Class attendance is required. Unexcused absences will result in a reduction of your grade. All devices which make noise (e.g., cellular phones, pagers, personal stereos, etc.) must be turned of while in class.
