Meeting on March 11, 2005
Meeting began at 2:35 pm.

II. Chulick/Sahyun
move approval of Meeting Minutes of March 4th meeting. Approved on
voice
vote.
III. Announcements
A. Chairšs
Announcements
1. Modern
Physics II syllabus from A. Boukahil was distributed. Please
distribute
to interested students during advising this spring.
2. Boukahil
is recruiting the best students from Math 243 and other
mathematics
courses for Physics Majors and Minors.
3. Rybski
discussed with physics majors in Thermal Physics the desirability of
their
taking PhysicsMechanics -Statics next fall.
4. Names
for the best students in Physics 160 and 170 have been submitted as
has
the name of a candidate for the Physics Scholarship. Rybski has been
contacted
by a representative of the Prucha Award committee, so
there
will be a Prucha Award this year.
These names will be submitted by
Lynn Miller early next week to Terri
Parenteau.
5. Several
course conflicts have been uncovered and resolved between
Physics,
Chemistry and Mathematics. One
conflict remains and is under
discussion.
6. Revision
to the Catalog need to be submitted to the L&S Curriculum
Committee
by April 7th. Please submit
suggested changes to Rybski by
March
16th.
B. Committee
Reports
1. Curriculum
No meeting.
2. Graduate
Council Benjamin could not attend a meeting in which no action
was
taken on a physics topic.
3. Library
No report
4. SPS
No report from student representative.
The SPS telephone problem
is
being addressed by Rybski, and a new, locally restricted number is being
assigned.
5. Upham
renovation Extensive discussions are occurring in ad hoc
subcommittees
concerning limited choices in colors.
6. Webpage
progress on redesign on homepage and subpages has been
made. Pictures for the rotating homepage
section are being taken.
C. Announcements
from the Floor
1. Constantinescu
made three presentations on Venus and Mars to 7th graders
at
Fort Atkinson Middle School.
2. Constantinescu
has arranged a visit to Ray-O-Vac for SPS on Wednesday,
March
30th, between 2:30 pm and 4:30 pm in Madison. Transportation is
under
discussion. Engineers at Ray-O-Vac
are willing to come to UWW to
talk
with interested students on a date to be chosen in the future.
3. Assessment
committee for Center for Disabled Students/Project ASSIST
met
on Wednesday at 10 am, the main subject being the merging of
managements
of CDS and ASSIST.

Business
A. Physics
Curriculum Revisions delayed until next week.
V. New
Business
A. Paul
German of InfoCor made a presentation to the faculty and staff of the
Symposium
ID250 interactive pen display for documenting faculty notes for web-
based
delivery. Software accompanying
the display permits interacting with pre-
established
documentation and graphics, including video and PowerPoint
presentations,
as well as creating entirely new text.
Writing-recognition software is
available
with limited font recognition capability:
at the moment, mathematical
symbols
are not recognized.
Benjamin/Chulick move to adjourn meeting. Passed on voice vote at 3:52 pm.
