called to order at 2:35 p.m.
II. Sahyun/Benjamin
move to approve meeting Minutes of January 14th meeting. Passed on voice vote.
III. Announcements
A. Chair¹s
Announcements
1. Capital
Equipment Exercise and laptop loss-all requests due to Lynn Miller by February
2nd at 4:30 p.m. and will be discussed at faculty meeting Friday,
February 4th.
2. Upham
renovation information request-Bruce Eshelman has requested us to provide him
with our requests for office and classroom furniture.
3. Chair
selection consultation with Dean Howard Ross-everyone from Physics Dept. must
meet with the Dean, please call and arrange your own meeting.
4. Department
Self-study document-Dr. Rybski will distribute to everyone in dept. by
Wednesday, February 2nd.
5. Fort
Atkinson Science Fair progress report
6. Professional
software (Origin)
7. Liquid
nitrogen dewar and room status
8. Observatory
Lecture series-first Lecture will happen March 4th
B. Committee
Reports
1. Curriculum-met
electronically January 20th, a few title changes were made.
2. Graduate
Council-no meeting
3. Library-all
requests due to Bob by Monday, January 31st. Juliana and Steve have
already submitted their requests.
4. SPS-first
meeting will happen Monday, January 31st.
5. Webpage-has
been updated by Joseph Grams, a few modifications still needed. Joseph Grams is
to be commended for his excellent work.
6. Sahyun
attended meeting of L &S and Arts & Communication Liason Committee met Thursday, January 27th. A Professional Development Plan was
discussed which would include the Physics Dept. See Sahyun to look at
documentation.
IV. Old
Business
A. Self-study
and HEC review-material distributed, will discuss in two weeks at faculty
meeting.
B. Physics
Curriculum Revisions extensive discussion of options for course
offerings
and course rotations. A revised
proposed rotation will be distributed this
coming
week.
C. Writing
within the Curriculum committee
meeting request Constantinescu/Sahyun suggested having our sophomore
students acquire a reference with advanced composition topics.
V. New
Business
A. Discussion
of recruiting physics majors on campus
B. New
Course and Revision of Old Course Constantinescu distributed a new course
proposal , Physics Mechanics-Statics for consideration; she will be working on
this course in conjunction with Physics Mechanics Dynamics and solicits inputs from faculty.
Constantinescu/Sahyun move to adjourn. Passed on a voice vote at 5:21 pm.
