Learning Communities The Provost has asked all interested departments
to participate in workshops during next semester and during the summer, at
their option, to develop residential learning communities. Physics will be represented at least by
Rybski.

appointment Rybskiıs current appointment terminates in May 2005; the dean will be asking you to visit
him to suggest the next Chair of Physics

Curriculum (Sahyun) Met electronically on Dec. 2; informational

Council -- (Benjamin) No meeting
3. Departmental
Library (Benjamin) Library requests MUST be submitted by the end of January
to Benjamin. Extensive discussion
of library acquisitions and the need for a departmental library occurred.
4. L&S
Promotions (Rybski) Committee met on November 30th and will
meet
again on December 7th.
Promotions criteria will be discussed during
the
next semester.
5. SPS
During the Nov. 29th meeting, discussion covered outreach
activities,
tee-shirts
for fund-raising and field trips to Yerkes Observatory,
FermiLab
and Ray-O-Vac.
6. Other
a. Chancellorıs Committee on Disabilities
met the Universal Design
Committee
on December 3rd to hear presentations on maximum-access
building
designs

from the Floor
1. Thanks
extended to Benjamin for arranging for colloquium by Dr. Craig
Heinke,
Northwestern University, who lectured on globular star clusters

Business
A. Curriculum
1. Benjamin/Constantinescu
moved a curricular change to include Exit
Interviews
in the graduation requirements for all Physics Major emphases.
Passed
unanimously.
2. Benjamin/Sahyun
moved that all physics staff/faculty design their ideal
physics/engineering
curriculum, for presentation and discussion in a
workshop
scheduled for January 2005. Passed
unanimously.

Business

moved a Physics 212 curricular change that changes prerequisities.
Chulick/Benjamin move the meeting be adjourned. Meeting adjourned at 3:51 pm.
