Minutes for September 10th meeting

 

Meeting called to order at 2:40 pm.

II.        Sahyun/Constantinescu moved to approve the Meeting Minutes of 5/10/04 and 7/29/04. Motion Passed.

                        1.         Curriculum  - none.

                        2.         Graduate Council ­ no relevant changes.

                        3.         First SPS meeting of Fall 2004 was held at 6 pm, September 8 in Upham 138.

 

C.             Announcements from the Floor

1.     Dr. Ayanna Howard from JPL/CalTech will be speaking on Monday November 1, to give both a colloquium and a public lecture.

2.     Dr. Pat Slane, UWW Physics alumnus and Harvard/Smithsonian Astrophysicist is planning to give a colloquium on Thursday, October 28.

3.     There are funds available to bring in discipline specific speakers.

 


IV.       Old Business

            A.        The class Schedule for Spring 2005 has been submitted.

            B.        Curricular initiatives

                        1.         E&M prerequisites revision.  Math 255 as a pre-requisite.

                        2.         Modern Physics 410 to become a 370(?), Retitle 412: Modern Physics II to 412: Quantum Physics

3.     Mechanics discussion postponed. Constantinescu and DasGupta  will present suggested revisions at a later meeting.

 

C.        Colloquium schedule postponed.

            D.        Progress on self-study planning postponed

 

V.        New Business

 

            A.        Course rotation realignment.  Sahyun and Rybski will work on a new course schedule for next week.

 

            B.        Discussion of the Advising brochure is postponed. Rybski and Benjamin will circulate samples.

 

            C.        Status and rules on Departmental Federal Indirect accounts is postponed.

 

Sahyun/Benjamin moved to adjourn at 4:15. Motion passed.
