I.          Call to order at 4:00 pm

II.        Approve minutes of 12/10/01 meeting

III.     Announcements

A.        The University Curriculum Committee and the Provost have approved the following curricular proposals:  The new course, PHYSCS 150 From Einstein to Star Trek, the revised, 2-credit PHYSCS 489 Physics Senior Seminar, the new major emphasis PHYSICS ENGINEERING EMPHASIS (BA/BS), and the revision of the Industry Track to require COMPSCI 173 Fortran.

B.        The Provost’s office is looking for a couple of science faculty interested in helping recruit top students by contacting them by telephone in a coordinated session.  Lunch will be provided at a strategy session being planned at this time.

C.       The University of Michigan announces its Research Experiences for Undergraduates program for summer 2002.  The deadline is February 19, 2002.

D.       The University of Washington announces its Research Experiences for Undergraduates program for summer 2002.  The deadline is March 1, 2002.

E.        The University of Tennessee announces its Undergraduate Summer Research Fellowships program for summer 2002.  The deadline is March 1, 2002.

F.        The University of Minnesota announces its 2002 Summer Undergraduate Research Experiences in Electrical and Computer Engineering.  The deadline is February 15, 2002.

G.       NASA announces its Summer Institute on Atmospheric and Hydrospheric Sciences designed for undergraduate students.  It is a 1 week lecture series followed by 9 weeks of research.  The application deadline is February 15, 2002.

H.       The Women’s Fair is looking for help with staffing tables on March 1, 2002.  Please contact Ann Luther if you wish to help.

I.          The Learn Center is organizing a workshop on improving student course evaluation instruments and data collection methods.  It will be held January 17, 2002.  Contact the LEARN center if you are interested.

A.       Approve emeritus resolution for Hugo Tscharnack

B.        Curricular matters

i.           Discuss curricular action to require the General Science – Broadfield Physics Emphasis majors to take Senior Seminar.

ii.         Discuss computer science prerequisites for PHYSCS 221 and PHYSCS 303.

V.       New Business

A.       Discuss status of performance evaluations.

B.        Discuss status of departmental budget

C.       Discuss HP LaserJet maintenance contracts
