A. The initial draft of the departmental equipment/supply inventory has been completed. Work needs to be done to organize, edit, and make it accessible. The inventory will be used to identify ways to consolidate departmental belongings and prepare for the Upham renovation project.
B. Dr. Menningen attended the web accessibility workshop on 12/6/01 and reports that some work will need to be done to bring the Physics website into compliance with accessibility standards.
C. The University of Michigan announces its Research Experiences for Undergraduates program at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland. The deadline is January 18, 2002.
D. The renovation contractors are planning a June 3, 2002 starting date. The A/E expects that the contractor would probably want to do the demo work immediately, removing the debris through a hole in the east facade before the addition is constructed. Therefore the designated spaces will need to be vacated prior to June 3.
E. If laboratory manuals are required for spring semester they should be ordered shortly to give printing services sufficient time to prepare them. The Printing Services supervisor is Christine Lazaneo, x1183.
F. THE Distance Learning Workshop announces, “Proven Teaching Strategies and Course Design for the World Wide Web and Interactive Television,” March 22-23, 2002, Albuquerque, NM. Early registration by March 1, 2002.
G. The Physics library allocation is currently at $1846.63. It is recommended we spend 75% of this by the end of December. Please forward purchase suggestions to Dr. Rybski.
H. The physics department computer kiosk is nearly complete. It will be displayed in the glass case on second floor by the study area, adjacent to the weather display. The display cycles between web pages. Later some interactive content will be added.
I. Grade rosters will be available on WINS beginning Monday, December 10. Grades must be entered, saved, approved, and saved again by December 21. If you are unsure of the procedure please see Dr. Menningen.
J. The American Physical Society is offering a workshop on Survival Skills for Successful Women Physicists on Sunday, March 17, 2002 prior to the APS Annual Meeting in Indianapolis. Cost is $60, deadline is March 15, 2002.
