I.          Call to order at 4:00 pm

II.        Approve minutes of 11/19/01 meeting

III.     Announcements

A.       The University of San Diego is hosting the first International Conference on Quantum Limits to the Second Law, July 29-31, 2002.  They announce an initial call for abstracts.

B.        There is now a McIntosh with a paper/transparency scanner and Adobe Photoshop available in UH115.  A request has been issued to rekey the room so all faculty will have access to its capabilities.

C.       Dean Ross has scheduled a Curriculum Listening Session for Tuesday, November 27 from 7-9p.m. in UC 219.

D.       Faculty are invited to the Wisconsin Leadership Conference on December 6-7,2001. The conference is a professional development opportunity for K-14 administrators from across the spectrum of educational leadership. This year's conference theme, "Pushing the Boundaries of Leadership," focuses on K-14 standards alignment.

E.        Northeastern University announces Research Experiences for Undergraduates at CERN, the high-energy physics laboratory near Geneva, Switzerland.  The deadline is January 1, 2002.

F.        The American Physical society announces the April 2002 meeting in Albuquerque, NM, emphasizing astrophysics, nuclear and particle physics, gravitation, few body systems, precision measurement, and physics education, among other topics.

G.       The Wyoming Infrared Observatory announces its REU Summer Undergraduate Research Assistantship Program for 2002.  The deadline is February 17, 2002.

H.       Lousiana State University announces a conference called Nanotechnology at the Interface of Information Technology, February 7-9, 2002.  Application deadline is January 11, 2002.

I.          The Women’s Issues Committee announces two awards (one student, one employee) for individuals that demonstrate leadership of and/or involvement in issues furthering gender equity at UW-Whitewater.  Nominations are requested by February 15, 2002.

J.          Yuichi Tatsumi is the only physics student listed for graduation December 2001.  Congratulations to Yuichi for his accomplishment!

K.       Jodi Hare is available to conduct a grading workshop at a department meeting if we wish to invite her.

L.        The next University Curriculum Committee meeting is scheduled for December 14, 2001 at 2:15 p.m. in Hyer 216.

IV.     Old Business

A.       Curricular matters

i.           Discuss curricular action to require the General Science – Broadfield Physics Emphasis majors to take Senior Seminar.

ii.         Discuss a curricular proposal to overhaul the electronics and microprocessor lab offerings by the department.
