Becoming a school library media
specialist in Wisconsin is a two stage process. This distance
education program will prepare you for both stages of the license.
The first stage of the license is based
on 24 credits of coursework plus two practicum experiences and can
be
earned
either
as an undergraduate
minor or through graduate coursework. The
first level of the license will continue to be available as a minor
in an undergraduate teacher preparation program
or through graduate coursework. If you are a beginning teacher,
you will earn the license as an Initial Educator, the 902 Initial
Instructional Library Media Specialist. If you have a
Professional Educator License, you will gain the 902 Instructional
Library Media Specialist with Stipulations.
A draft
of the competencies for the 902 license can be found at the DPI
web site.
