Questions?

Direct to you. When you can't find a full text article that meets your needs, make an interlibrary loan request through the WiLS "Send ILL Request" link.

We'll deliver directly to your home or work! Please time your research to allow a minimum of three business days for WiLS to process your request. Keep in mind that if the material is mailed to you via US post, you should add another two or three days to receipt of the material at your address.

Password Q&A

Q. I have lots of passwords. Which password and userid do I use for library services?

A. The answer here is, "It depends."  You will need to log into FirstSearch with the logon code and password sent to your instructor in an email from Debbie Cardinal of WILS (608) 263-5051.

The WebCT userid and password will get you into Interlibrary loan and the databases that are common across all UW System campuses.

To use electronic reserve you will need a password for the institution where the electronic reserve is housed. Check with your instructor for more information.

If you are using services directly from any of the campus libraries, you may be asked for a password from that institution. Unless this is your home institution where you have a student ID, you will not be able to use those services.

Ebscohost is available to all citizens of Wisconsin. If you have difficulty accessing the Badgerlink databases, check the Badgerlink information page. Your Internet Service Provider may need to do something to make it available to you or you may need to access it through a different provider.

Q. "What if I forget my passwords?"

A. If you forget your password for FirstSearch or the ILL web form, contact your instructor or Debbie Cardinal at (608) 263-5051 (9 a.m. - 6 p.m.) or at cardinal@wils.wisc.edu. The logon information for FirstSearch and EbscoHost is the same for everyone so you could also ask a classmate or instructor.

Interlibrary Loan Q&A

Q.Something you may find confusing is that you can ask for items via interlibrary loan by requesting items from your home campus library or by using the web ILL form on the Library Services site. Should I use my campus ILL or the one through WILS?

A. You are not limited to one way or the other. It makes the most sense to use which ever way suits your current need. If you are at your home campus to attend class or do research at the library, using the library's ILL service may work best for you if you can pick up the articles or books. If you are online from work or home using the database services at the library services site, then use the ILL web form linked at the UWSSLEC library website. You may use either way at any time for any request for material.

WILS has made a few changes to the ILL policy and has tried to emphasize the deadline importance for you. If you've used ILL before, please reread the How to Obtain Books and Articles page.

We hope these library services will make your academic activities more convenient and help you concentrate on studying and writing rather than on parking, wild goose chases, and frustrating searches.
