Access require
authorization to guarantee that only registered students have access
to the licensed databases. This access information is available from
your professor or from Debbie Cardinal,
a WILS staff member.
Badgerlink
Badgerlink is a Wisconsin service that provides access to journal and
newspaper articles. Proquest provides access to newspaper articles including
the Madison, Milwaukee, and Chicago papers. The EBSCOhost service provides
access to some general databases like Academic Search, MasterFILE Premier,
and ERIC. WISCAT, the statewide union catalog of items in almost 1300
libraries across the state, is also available. Additional resources
include links to Wisconsin libraries, educational websites, and videos
available on interlibrary loan. Use the Send ILL Request button to send
requests to WILS for material you want.
Common Databases
The UW System campuses have licenses to a selection of databases. These
are available through each campus web page as well as through the Common
UW System Databases link. Use your WebCT userid and password to
access these databases.
FirstSearch
The FirstSearch Service provides access to databases that go beyond
those provided in other services. Although you can search without incurring
costs, it is a pay-per-item viewed/printed as full-text. While the databases
are different, the search strategies are the same. Use the citations
to request a copy of the material through the FirstSearch link via interlibrary
loan from WILS. Because it is a fee-based service libraries establish
accounts, but frequently attempt to restrict FirstSearch to being the
tool of last resort. Check with your faculty member for the authorization
number and password.
UWS-SLEC Library Links
You may link to the other campuses offering courses through the UWS-SLEC
Campus Library Links. We emphasize these library catalogs because
each individual campus library has subscriptions and resources far beyond
the statewide common electronic database subscriptions. You may
use the resources at your home institution's library. Links are also
provided to each institution's reference service.
