Undergraduate Major: Physical Education
- Physical Education K-12 Broad Field Licensure -
The Physical Education K-12 Licensure can be earned from the Wisconsin Department of
Public Instruction by completing this major. This licensure provides students with
the flexibility to teach in either the elementary or secondary school.
Students who are interested making themselves highly marketable may choose from three additional add on licensures, health education, coaching, and adaptive physical education. - Health, Human Performance and Recreation - The Health, Human Performance and Recreation Major prepares students for careers in the private sector. With this major students must select a minor and may choose from a variety of minors both in and outside the department. Within the department student may choose from Health Promotion, Recreation & Leisure Studies or Coaching as a minor. For minors outside the department students will need to consult with an advisor.
Emphases
Undergraduate Minors
- Coaching - The Coaching Minor offered by the Department is designed to meet the national coaching standards developed by the National Association for Sport and Physical Education.
- Health - The Health Promotion and Health Education minors provide an opportunity to explore knowledge, attitudes and experiences in differing health fields. A holistic approach is used to determine the impact that health education, health maintenance, and health promotion/wellness have on various lay and professional populations. The Health Education minor allows students to pursue a teaching license while the Health Promotion minor allows students to pursue directions beyond the school setting.
- Recreation and Leisure Studies - Recreation professionals work to meet people's needs during their leisure time. Recreation professionals must be sensitive to the needs of people, and have the ability to work with diverse types of people. They may work to organize or teach activities; hire, train, supervise, and schedule staff; operate indoor or outdoor facility, parks, pools, trails, or gyms; manage equipment, funds, or other leisure resources.
