General Overview of the Program

The Professional Development and Licensure Program in ESL/Bilingual Education at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, offers a minor in both English as a second language (ESL) and Bilingual education.  The licensure program is offered in the Department of Curriculum Instruction in concert with the Department of Languages and Literature. In addition, this program offers professional development to practicing teachers and teacher educators through Project SWEETT and its partner program, the Professional Development Program for Teachers of Linguistically Diverse Students.

Our office is housed at the university and offers a professional library of trade books, professional books, literacy development series, music, audio visual materials, professional development materials, manipulatives and educational games.  The on-line resource center contains resources for working with language minority children and families.  Funded by several grants from the U.S. Department of Education since the fall of 2000, these initiatives are helping school districts meet the needs of language minority children and families.
