Foreword
This handbook is written
and distributed to those engaged in the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater
pre-clinical experiences. It is intended as a guide for students
in the teacher education program, the personnel of cooperating
schools, and the university faculty.
Successful completion
of pre-clinical experiences fulfills Wisconsin Department
of Public Instruction requirements for pre-clinical experiences
preceding the student teaching experience. The Pre-Professional
Block field experience also meets the direct experience component
of the human relations requirement for a teaching license.
Pre-clinical experiences also provide students with essential
opportunities to develop systematic observation skills, to
participate in a school setting, to enhance classroom instruction,
and to prepare for a successful student teaching experience.
Schools in southeastern
Wisconsin are selected as sites for the pre-clinical experiences.
The guidance provided by school personnel is invaluable and
appreciated by the students and faculty of the University
of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
The departments involved
in teacher preparation programs have identified student objectives
in the categories of understanding, knowledge, skills, and
dispositions to meet expectations of the UW-System and accrediting
bodies. Varied assessment measures are utilized in courses
and clinical experiences to evaluate student progress. In
addition, the data collected serve in the on-going process
of program improvement.
