Jamaican Me Crazy!!!
Consult the grading rubric to ensure you understand what is required for the speeches and papers you will be preparing.
Step 2: Assign Roles
To begin, group members must select their role from the following list:
If there are more than four members in the group, more than one research assistant may be appointed for both tourism and education.
Step 3: Research
Now that all members of the group know and understand their roles, it is time to begin researching the topic. In researching each topic, group members must concentrate on the subjects that will assist their argument. All members of the group must work on the research portion of the assignment. Each group must cite at least four credible sources for their report.
Step 4: Writing the Paper
Next, the research assistants write a report stating the positions of each side. This paper should state clearly the opinions of the Ministry they represent, and should include any facts and figures needed to support their case. After the reports are written, they should be given to the Ministers of Education and Tourism who are responsible for checking and editing the reports. Each group will also have to construct a visual aid, illustrating their main points, which will be used during their presentations.
Step 5: Presentation
For the purpose of this presentation, your teacher will assume the role of the Prime Minister of Jamaica. The teacher’s job will be to introduce the idea to the class and explain to them that they will be acting as the Jamaican Parliament. Each Minister will then read their paper to the class, followed by time allowed for any questions the class may have for the speakers. Following this, the Prime Minister will call for the Parliament to vote to determine where the money will be allocated.
