Biography
Dr. Sheila Feay-Shaw received her undergraduate degree in music therapy from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee as well as her teaching certification and Masters Degree in Music Education. She completed her PhD at the University of Washington in 2002 and received the Outstanding Dissertation award from the Council for Research in Music Education based on her qualitative study entitled "The Transmission of Ghanaian Music by Culture-Bearers: From Master Musician to Music Teacher". She has publications in the Bulletin for the Council of Research in Music Education, General Music Today and the Journal of Historical Research in Music Education. She has presented at State, National and International Conferences on issues of pedagogy in world music traditions and children's experiences in cultural festivals. She taught elementary general music in Milwaukee, WI and Seattle, WA for 15 years before joining the faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 2004 where she is the Coordinator for Music Education. Her areas of specialty include world music in elementary and secondary general music, music for students with special education needs, music teacher education and music in the integrated curriculum.
