Degree's specialization provides more variance and broader background into fine arts, which could develop wider range training and self reliance.

Major in Art with Graphic Design Emphasis

The BFA Degree provides a more comprehensive and structured background in graphic design and the fine arts. This degree provides the greatest well defined knowledge of Creative Graphic Design at the undergraduate level and is recommended for students seeking careers as creative designers, multimedia designers, illustrators, web designers and art directors. This approach allows a student to focus in Fine Art, Graphic and Multimedia Design without an outside minor. The 21 credit outside of department minor is waived and those credits are taken in more advanced Art and Graphic Design course work. Students from this program often seek admission into graduate schools with a more well defined personal and professional portfolio after completing the undergraduate degree and go on to teach or work as professional designers.

Teaching Certification

Certification provides graduates with the ability to become instructors in specific areas of art, such as art history, jewelry, printmaking, etc. This is a certification for Elementary and High School only.

Major in Art-Graphic Design 

The BA Graphic Design program is intended to develop students as creative graphic designers with career development paths as graphic production designers, print designers, and web designers in a competive job market. This degree must be approached with an additional minor from another discipline unlike those selecting the BFA degree. This approach allows a student to concentrate in fine art and graphic design while taking advantage of a wide variety of 21 credit minor offerings campus wide and is particulary useful when balancing business courses, advertising and web information development courses for a rounded more liberal arts degree approach.

with Art History Minor


The BA Graphic Design program is intended to develop students as creative graphic designers with career development paths as graphic production designers, print designers, and web designers in a competive job market. Art History Minor allows for some additional competitive edge if going into designing for Museums, Galleries or Art Historians is a career goal.

BA Degree
Major in Art History

The Art History major allows students to specialize in the history of art within the broader art program. Each art history major must take the two introductory survey courses which introduce the chronological range of Western art history from prehistory to the present. Students must take six additional upper division courses, one each in Ancient, Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, 19th Century and 20th Century art. Students must also choose two additional elective courses, and take a course in art history research methodology. Majors must also complete four semesters of foreign language, and complete an English competency requirement.

Studio Emphasis Art Minor

General scope of a BA in Art with time for minoring in Fine Art or Graphic Design, helpful for competing in the job market in areas where some level of creativity and Art/Design skills are important.

Art History Minor

The Art History minor allows students to minor in the history of art within the broader art program. Each art history minor must take the two introductory survey courses which introduce the chronological range of Western art history from prehistory to the present. Students must take five additional upper division courses, choosing one course in Ancient and Medieval art, one in Renaissance art, two from Baroque, 19th Century and 20th Century art, finally one additional elective art history course.
