Numerous degree tracks are available within the Department of Art, allowing students to tailor their education to their own individual requirements. Descriptions of these tracks are provided below.

BFA Degree

Bachelor of Fine Arts
Major in Art

The BFA Degree provides a more comprehensive and structured background in the fine arts. This degree provides the fullest experience of Fine Art at the undergraduate level and is recommended for students seeking careers as fine artists. BFA candidates must complete the three foundations courses and nine additional required studio courses. Five art electives must also be completed, divided between 2-D and 3-D art disciplines. The two introductory Art History survey courses are also required for the major, as well as two additional required upper-division courses, and two elective upper-division courses. The remaining five courses must be selected from a single art discipline, becoming the student's area of specialization. This approach allows a student to focus in Fine Art without an outside minor. The 21-credit minor is waived and those credits are taken in more advanced Fine Art course work. Students from this program often seek admission into graduate schools with a more well defined personal and professional portfolio after completing the undergraduate degree and go on to teach or work as professional artists. The degree's specialization provides more variance and broader background into fine arts, which could develop wider range training and self reliance.

BA Degree

Major in Art
Advising Guidelines

The BA Degree in Art is a more generalized program than the BFA. BA candidates must complete the three foundations courses and five additional required studio courses. Four art electives must also be completed, of which no more than three can be within the same art discipline. The two introductory Art History survey courses are also required for the major. Unlike the BFA Degree, this degree allows students to pursue a minor from another discipline. This approach allows a student to concentrate in fine art while taking advantage of a wide variety of 21-credit minor offerings campus-wide for a rounded more liberal arts degree.
